When this beautiful family from Utah first reached out to me about capturing their holiday in the Whitsundays, I nearly missed the opportunity.
Looking back now, I can completely understand why they may have wondered if I'd forgotten about them.
At the time, life was incredibly full.
I was working as a teacher aide during the week, helping run our family business, KRUWORX, behind the scenes, and raising our two children while my husband worked away in the mines on a seven-days-on, seven-days-off roster. Like many mums, I was trying to be everything to everyone, and unfortunately my communication sometimes reflected that.
Photography has never just been another job for me—it has always been the place where I feel most alive. But during that season, I wasn't able to give it the attention it truly deserved.
Thankfully, this wonderful Christian family chose to trust me anyway.
That decision reminded me exactly why I fell in love with photography in the first place.
It wasn't simply because they were a beautiful family.
It was because they were completely present with one another.
No rushing.
No distractions.
Just genuine love, laughter, and connection.
Instead of photographing them in one of the popular tourist locations, I took them somewhere many visitors never discover—a secluded stretch of paradise at Cape Gloucester, about 40 minutes from Airlie Beach.
Watching their children run barefoot along the sand, seeing the parents slow down and simply enjoy being together, reminded me of something important.
